The park equity movement in the U.S. is at a turning point. Parks and other green spaces are crucial for the health and wellbeing of communities—a fact made even clearer during the pandemic. But not all communities have access to these vital resources. Correcting inequities demands advocates’ utmost attention, urgency, and action. A new approach to achieving park equity can unlock transformation and usher in an era in which African American, Latino, and low-income urban communities are fair, just, and green.

Prevention Institute will facilitate a three-part bi-monthly learning series for local health jurisdictions and their community and government partners on applying racial justice principles and practices to build community safety.

Join us to learn about  a new framework, Community Safety Realized: Public Health Pathways to Preventing Violence, that will be introduced by the Big Cities Health Coalition(link is external) and Prevention Institute.

Whether dealing with COVID-19, wildfires, storms, or other disasters, life as we know it has been disrupted in many ways over the past year. With recovery efforts underway, including $4 billion recently allocated through the American Rescue Plan Act to address mental health challenges, suicide, and substance misuse, states and local communities have an opportunity to set the course for healthier and more equitable development in the wake of COVID-19.
